Lacrosse season kicks off

This year the men’s lacrosse team is made up of some of the most dedicated, disciplined, and hardworking group of athletes I have ever been on a team with. Speaking from over tens years of experience playing team sports, this means a lot.   This is the third season I have played for the GMC Eagles, and this season has by far been the most exciting.  We came together as a team in a short amount of time and proved to be a competitive force in the North Atlantic Conference. This year’s squad works well with one another, and successfully operates as a team, rather than one individual player carrying the load.

All players of this year’s team are important assets, starting with second year veteran goalie Keith Drinkwine.  Drinkwine has greatly amped up his performance, making incredible saves when the game is on the line.  His signature kick save has kept us in the game in many close situations.

In front of Drinkwine is a group of tough defenders who often play the entire game, and perform well under pressure.  The Defense is well tamed, and they take few penalties.  They deserves a lot of credit in that they are willing to sacrifice their body in blocking a 70 mph shot to prevent a goal.

Next is the back bone of this year’s team, the midfielders.  These guys are the definition of true athletes.  They can run up and down the field for the 60 minutes of regulation playing time. They enable many fast breaks and are the reason many games are so close in score.  Another reason games are so close in score, is the goal scoring ability brought on by the attack.  The attack men are extremelyagile and capable of scoring endless goals with lightning fast shots.

The season so far has been full of intense games, one going into double over time. I have seen this team grow over the past three years, but it seems like this year we have taken a giant leap in terms of team improvement. It is a lot of fun and hard practice, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to play on the same field with such motivated athletes.
