I t is common to see headlines in the business section of any newspaper regarding the growing “green” economy. Sustainability is cost-effective, efficient, and sometimes even sexy! This growing trend has created many possibilities for entrepreneurs and has initiated many job opportunities.

In Vermont the effectiveness of sustainability is utilized more so than many other states. There are great incentives, and there are also many creative new businesses that apply to a variety of target markets.

Good Point Recyling is a very interesting business that focuses on reducing toxins in landfills, by recycling electronic goods and reselling them. Colin Davis, VP of Good Point Recycling, started the company with one small box truck. He would commute long distances picking up used TV’s, computers, printers, and anything other potentially usable electronic goods. He brought all these goodies to his warehouse in Middlebury Vermont. Since then his business has evolved greatly, and he now supplies furnished electronics, at a discount price, to people all over the world. A primary focus for Good Point Recycling is supplying the people in developing countries with furnished electronics. Good Point Recycling truly portrays the reality of what sustainability is and the future of it.

I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to meet Colin Davis, and get a tour of the Good Point Recycling Facility. It was truly incredible the amount of electronics he had collected in his warehouse. There was literally piles of flat screen TV’s that went on past the length of a football field. Pretty Crazy! Some were fixed and ready to be shipped out, others were in the process of being fixed.

This is a great concept for a business, and very inspiring for future entrepreneurs to follow in the footsteps in creating a similar successful venture.
