Jose Galvez-Contreras, a junior student at Green Mountain College, wanted to do something positive for the children in his native country, Honduras. Two summers ago he began an undergraduate research project with Professor Paul Hancock. While studying the Honduras economy, Galvez-Contreras began to film a documentary about the children living on the streets.
He documented their stories, and also spoke to government agencies and non-profit organizations. “It is really important to create awareness of these children,” he states, “these children are living on the streets without families, food, and healthcare. They are forced to being adults in a young body.”
Galvez-Contreras submitted the project to the Feed Forth Conference organized by Nagoya University in Japan. The project got selected to present at the international students conference. Galvez-Contreras will fly to Japan on November 20 to present his 17 minute long documentary at the conference at Nagoya University. “I am very excited,” Galvez-Contreras states, “My intention of this project was to create awareness of these kids and it is becoming possible.”
