GMC Community Member of the Month: Luke Percival
Junior Luke Percival spent his summer overseas in Australia and New Zealand. “I wasn’t there as a tourist,” he states, “I was there to travel, work, and visit family.”
While in Australia, Percival worked for a mining company where he surveyed the land and collected rock samples. He and his crew hiked to previous mining sites, collected soil samples, testing them for copper, iron, gold, and zinc. He also held positions as a beekeeper and an apple and mandarin picker and packager.
In Northern Australia, he worked at an electronic music festival where he worked at a composting toilet venue. Hard work aside, he visited family in Sydney, hiked Mt. Isa, and went scuba diving and snorkeling.
After two months in Australia, Percival traveled to New Zealand. There he drove across the Northern Islands, where he hiked to glaciers, skied, and went skydiving. “Overall, backpacking across Austraialia and New Zealand made me realize how important it is to see the world before I decided where to settle down,” states Percival.
