Volleyball ends season in NAC semis
The women’s volleyball team lost to Husson College in a thrilling semifinal match 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15). The Lady Eagles took the first set 25-27 after coming back from a 20-15 deficit. The pattern repeated throughout the second and third sets, but unfortunately, the Husson ladies proved to be strong opponents. “It was disappointing losing to Husson, but we were right there with them,” said coach Todd Montana. GMC’s team leaders were Emma Brinley-Buckley with 15 kills and Jennifer McGuire with 26 assists. “It was good to see our girls over the course of the season. I look forward to seeing them doing great things,” Montana noted.
Several Green Mountain ladies were recognized by the North Atlantic Conference for their distinguished performances during the season. Amanda Jeffers, Monique Couture and Taylor Riso were chosen in the conference’s first team, Karen Bellemare was chosen in the second team, while Karen Davidson earned honorable mention. Furthermore, coach Katie Keogh was named conference’s Coach of the Year.
Senior Lauren DiSessa and sophomore Nicole Horvath were chosen in the All-Conference Second teams after a great performance at the NAC meet at Johnson State. The two finished 9th and 14th respectively, leading their team to a fourth place overall amongst six teams. The GMC ladies cross country program blossomed this year, having a total of 10 runners competing in the conference finals.
The men’s soccer team had gone through a lot of hard times this season, both in terms of players and coaching staff. After several key players decided not to continue their athletic careers, the most recent resignation of coach Ray Campanile really hit the team hard. In spite of the rough year, three players managed to receive awards from the NAC – Nelson Ongiti was included in the NAC Second team, while Colin Miner and Jonathon Wagner-Herbert received honorable mentions.
