Spring is the time when the greenery starts to burst out of the small pockets of snow left on the ground. It seems that many of us have spent so much time cooped up in our dorms with friends that we have exhausted every worldly topic of conversation.
We have spoken of anti-war movements, nuclear energy, spring fashion, tan lines, warm whiskey, ice climbing, and racism. We talked about everything so far, and now just as we as it happens around this same time every year, we have nothing left to talk about but ghosts. Lady Ames, the ghost of Moses and the deer that lives in Cree basement appear to be having a dance party in our thoughts, while the ghost in the wellness center watches from the window jealous of all the fun.
But all is not lost, the end of the year is approaching and the few seniors that have managed to attain all of their credits will be graduating soon. We will miss them all, particularly the ones that decide not to come back next year and the year after and the year after that to have parties with incoming freshmen over a bonfire at the river. Fond memories become clearer as the countdown begins to the end of the year’s always emotional graduation ceremony. The professors dressed in funny green cloaks, similar to characters out of Tolkien novel.
So instead of spending our valuable time speaking of dead things and the supernatural, let’s celebrate what is still here today. When you see the seniors that will be missing from this campus soon, give them a high five and a gesture of good luck. Happy spring time to all!
