S tudents were surprised to find out that the Poultney bank had been robbed recently. At 10:17 on February 21 Joshua Swinger, 21, from Newark walked into the Citizens Bank and demanded money. He was later arrested.
According to Rutland Herald, Swinger entered the bank and gave a note to the teller that read: “Be Calm I have a gun give me the money in all drawers”
He got his money and drove away fast. He was eventually arrested in Mahwah, N.J., for speeding and changing lanes erratically. A backpack was found in the car containing about $2,240 and a silver plastic BB gun.
The student body was warned about the robbery about an hour after it happened through email. Dear Students, Faculty and Staff: “This email is not to alarm the Green Mountain College Community, but should serve as a reminder to everyone to keep your cars and Residence Hall room doors locked,” said Marshall Traverse of Residence Life and Steven Brown head of security.
